Can you dig it?

We can!!! It's been a while since we last posted, but we were patiently waiting for the excavation of our basement. Thankfully mother nature has been cooperative thus far (things are looking relatively promising for the next 10 days), and we were able to get the basement dug and the frost footings put in.

Initially we weren't supposed to start excavating the basement until today, but our contractor John called and said that the concrete guys had a change in their schedule and were able to come a day earlier than anticipated!

A few 20' tall piles of dirt later, we have a walk-out basement, buttress walls, and frost footings - and sweet ones at that! So check out some of the great pics, some of which were taken from the top of those piles. :)

Leo scoping out the trenches and frost footings.

Looking at the future walk-out side of the basement and the buttress walls.

You can see the beginning of the footprint of the house. The center footing is the load bearing wall. The two "U" shaped footers are the makings of the staircase.

View from the west side of the house. It was super cold and windy today.

This picture gives you an idea of how much dirt has been moved. To the far left of the picture is the footer walls for the garage floor.

We only have until 6:30pm to check out the progress. We're going to have to start visiting during the afternoon once Daylight Saving Time hits.

Can't wait for this bad boy to start filling up the wall forms! Only a few days away!!

The south facing wall - future walk-out basement.

Great view from the top of our dirt pile! :)

Some of these trenches were 14' down.
