Exsiding

The goal for the exterior of the house was to be as maintenance free as possible.  The material we chose for our siding is Hardie Board in artic white.  It is cement fiber board and does not require up keep which is customary with vinyl or wood lap siding.  The window and door trim is a composite material called Royal Mouldings which is white and also maintenance free.  No exterior painting is in our future.  In order to break up the south side of the home, we chose a combo of horizontal lap siding and board & batten material.  It too is made of the Hardie Board and Royal Mouldings.  Here's a sneak peek at some of the exterior progress, with more pictures soon to come.

  1. I was under the impression that Hardie Board held paint longer than cedar clapboard (because it doesn't expand and contract like wood) but still needs to be painted. If it doesn't that's a huge benefit.

Love the french doors and the windows with the transoms and trim detail on the top of the casings is really nice. Truly exsiding!

  3. Thanks so much Urban Cottage! I should have said that exterior painting is not our near future. From what I understand, it'll need to be painted in maybe a decade or two. We opted for the pre-painted option since painting the house was out of our budget. As you said, the concrete shouldn't expand nearly as much as wood which should help the finish stay in tact.

We're so happy with the trim and different textures of white. It turned out better than expected and I'm so happy that we decided on the extra detail.
